I've recently finished Progeny, and I'm writing a review of it for anyone out there who has any doubts in it (shame on you!). This story is a delicious sequel to Leroux's book, with a myriad of entrancing twists. Throughout reading the novel, I kept guessing what the outcome might be, but even I didn't think the ending would turn out as interesting as it did. It [Progeny] leaves the reader wondering "It ends here? But the story's only just begun!"
Becky L. Meadows writes with an easy-to-comprehend style that describes the scenes and characters extraordinarily. I especially enjoyed the scenes between Erik and Christian, because they. . .well, one has to read it to find out! I can see each character in the novel perfectly in my mind still, and for days after finishing it, I still have the plot buzzing around my head.
Each book is broken up into chapters and is told from a different point of view, ensuring that the reader will be kept interested in the freshness of the action. You also get to know the insight of each character, especially Christian, as he is a new character. Another new character is Madeleine, who you will get to know as you continue reading.
The similarities between Christian and Erik is astonishing, and only helps to keep the reader (you) engrossed with the story. From their long slim fingers and fierce bouts of anger to their amazing talent at the piano and sly cunning, you will see that Christian is almost an exact replica of our favourite man.
A superb twist in the story is when Christian is torn between his biological father and his adopted father, and must make the choice that will change his life. The whole time I was rooting for the choice of his biological father, but you will find out what happens when you read it!
As you can see, I happened to relish Progeny and managed to finish it within a short period of time. I insisted to my friend that he should read it, and I urge all of you to do so too. It will be an incredible experience, and you'll read it time and time again.
