Review...

Yet if the programme's emphasis was on opera, it was opera taking the night off. Peter Grimes may have been premiered at the theatre, Sadler's Wells Opera may have performed a rich repertoire of Verdi and Mozart, but the highlight of Sunday night was 'The Three Divas' singing a blissfully wicked parody of the Three Tenors' theme tune. Rosemary Ashe, Anne Collins and Della Jones competed shamelessly with each other for the big notes of Nessun Dorma, and in a perfect imitation of overwrought and overpaid Pavarottian emotion, added a unison routine of brow-wiping, arm-waving and ponderously wobbling jowels.
