Steven Stein-Grainger

STEVEN STEIN-GRAINGER is honored to join this company of The Phantom of the Opera, returning to a role he first played for an extended run in the Toronto production. He rejoins Phantom directly from the original Broadway cast of Andrew Lloyd Webber's Sunset Blvd. where he was proud to play over one hundred performances in the role of Max von Mayerling starring opposite Glenn Close, Betty Buckley and Elaine Paige. He has performed solo concert and choral works with the San Francisco Opera, Lyric Opera of Chicago, and Chicago Symphony.

A Chicago native now living in San Francisco, began his professional performence career on the musical theatre stage doing extensive work in summer stock and touring theatre as a singer, dancer and choreographer. He continued throughout his collage years adding production and direction to his credits and he completed his professional balletic debut with the Chicago City Ballet in 1986 in Paul Meijia's acclaimed production of Prokofiev's Cinderella. He has performed solo concert and choral works with the San Francisco Opera, Lyric Opera of Chicago, Chicago Symphony Orchestra, San Francisco Choral Society, Oakland Opera and Pacific Repertory Opera. In 1990 he completed a European tour on which he performed operatic excerpts with the Graz (Austria) Festival Orchestra and in the "Eleanor Steber Competition for Excellence in Singing Mozart". Mr. Stein-Grainger's roles include the Duke of Mantua in Rigoletta, Ferrando in Cosi fan Tutte, Ernesto in Don Pasquale, Don Ramiro in La Cenerentola, and Alfredo in La Traviata.
