Tenor John Mac Master is pleased to return to Toronto for his debut in the role of Piangi. Born in Moncton, New Brunswick; Mac Master began his career with Montreal's Tudor Singers. In Canada he has appeared with the Canadian Opera Company (five seasons), Winnipeg's Rainbow stage (Fiddler on the Roof, The Student Prince) and the Shaw Festival (Tom Jones). Since 1986, he has made his home in New York and is a frequent performer in opera and oratorio: recent performences include Britten (War Requiem), Rossini (Stabat Mater), Verdi (Requiem); Werther and Carmen in Carmel, California; and the title role in Handel's Judas Maccabeus on tour in Eastern Europe. Mac Master's recordings include Handel's Berenice (Newport Classics) and the Saint-Saens Requiem (Premier Records).
